Who doesn’t love meat pies?! When I told my husband that I was making Jamaican Meat Pies for the blog this week – he was excited. This recipe takes a little more time and intention, but it is so fun to make! These can make a great appetizer for a potluck or football party OR a great dinner!
In this recipe, I use my salt-free Jamaican spice blend from my spice company – The Spice Girl Kitchen. I’m completely biased because it is, after all, my spice recipe and the best salt-free Jamaican seasoning on the market. But feel free to use whatever Jamaican jerk seasoning you have on hand.

A Word On Small Biz Reality
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: meat pies are not easy to photograph! The reality of being a small business owner means some weeks are fully packed. This week was one of those weeks for me. Normally, I can tackle both recipes by Wednesday and have both blogs up by Thursday. This week, I could only do one recipe (but I managed to post a grocery shopping blog! Win!). I didn’t get it cooked and photographed until Thursday night, and I am writing this on a Friday morning.
I was fighting daylight to get this picture. It was about 8:30 p.m. on an August evening, and that little glimmer of sunshine was going to be gone at any second. I didn’t have much time to play around with the styling. In reality, this recipe probably needed a little extra styling than normal since meat pies are all beige on the outside (not too exciting to look at, but OH SO delicious). Not to mention, I am still a newbie in dough making AND food photography (remember I am an accidental private chef, not classically trained!).
All things considered, I feel like it’s more important for it to be “done” than perfect. The content is valuable and the recipe is delicious. It’s okay if the photos aren’t always perfect, right?!
I started this food blog to encourage you to eat homemade, inspire you to play in the kitchen, and help build stronger families around the kitchen table. I think it’s important to show that it’s okay to be a newbie at something (like me still learning about baking & dough making). It’s okay if it doesn’t turn out perfect, your family will love it anyway! This is all part of the learning process. Cooking is a skill after all!

Equipment Needs
I made the dough from scratch, which requires some more specialty equipment that might not be part of your standard kitchen set. If you are not interested in making your own dough, feel free to buy pre-made biscuits or pastry dough. I love playing with dough and learning about all the different ways to make dough. Homemade dough adds that little extra something – that rustic look and “made with love” feel. I encourage you to give it a try!
Equipment Used For Dough
No KitchenAid? No problem!
- Simply use a large mixing bowl to combine ingredients and use a pastry cutter to mix the water and butter into the dough.
