I don’t know about you – but sometimes I get bored with the same old dips at a party. Sometimes it’s nice to spice up your regular chips & queso with something a little more elegant and sophisticated.
This whipped feta dip is the perfect option. It’s elevated, creamy, savory, and cheesy. Plus, it pairs well with a bunch of different dipping agents – but we will get into that later.
In this post, we dive into winter produce, serving information, equipment needs, ingredient deep dive, and understand how feta cheese is made. Plus, I’ll teach you how to make this delicious whipped feta dip!
In this recipe, I use my salt-free Greek spice blend from my spice company – The Spice Girl Kitchen. I’m completely biased because it is, after all, my spice recipe and the best salt-free Greek seasoning on the market. But feel free to use whatever Greek spice you have on hand!
This post is all about whipped feta dip with honey!
Winter Produce
As I write this, it’s January. The bliss of the holidays has passed and the promises of the new year have entered the chat. Life seems to slow down – like a big exhale after the hustle and bustle of the holidays. One of my big goals for the new year is getting back to eating more fruits and veggies. But what does that look like in January? Let’s shed some light on this season’s produce:
- Apples
- Avocados
- Bananas
- Beets
- Brussels Sprouts
- Cabbage
- Carrots
- Celery
- Collard Greens
- Grapefruit
- Herbs
- Kale
- Kiwi
- Leeks
- Lemons
- Limes
- Onions
- Oranges
- Parsnips
- Pears
- Pineapples
- Potatoes
- Pumpkin
- Rutabagas
- Sweet Potatoes
- Swiss Chard
- Turnips
- and winter squash
Serving Information
For this recipe, I recommend serving it with bread and crackers – but also some seasonal produce. I would serve carrots, celery, parsnips, and turnip sticks on a platter for a winter produce dip board!
All About Feta Cheese
Feta is a white, crumbly cheese made primarily from sheep’s milk or a combination of sheep and goat milk. Have you ever wondered how feta cheese is made? I know I have! Here’s a brief overview:
1. First, the milk is sourced from sheep or a mix of sheep and goats.
2. Secondly, the milk is heated and then curdled using rennet or other coagulating agents.
3. Once the curds form, they are cut into small pieces, and the whey is drained off.
4. Next, the curds are salted and placed in molds to shape the cheese.
5. Finally, feta is typically aged in brine for several weeks, which contributes to its distinct flavor and texture.
Feta cheese has Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status in the European Union, which means that for a cheese to be labeled as “Feta,” it must be produced in specific regions of Greece and adhere to traditional production methods. This designation protects the authenticity and quality of the cheese, ensuring it maintains its unique characteristics.
Ingredient Deep Dive
Feta Cheese
I get the block of feta cheese from Aldi. Opt for the original feta cheese vs a pre-flavored option for the best outcome.
Goat Cheese
I prefer to use goat cheese over cream cheese in my whipped feta. I’m just not a huge fan of cream cheese, it tastes more sour to me. Using goat cheese still gives the same creaminess as cream cheese, but tastes a little better in my opinion. Again, I opt for plain goat cheese so I can control my flavors. Bonus points if you can use a local goat cheese for even more nutritional value.
Garlic
There’s just nothing like using a bit of fresh garlic in a recipe. I grate my garlic before placing it in the food processor to ensure it blends well into the dip.
Greek Seasoning
Feta dip calls for a bit of Greek seasoning. Greek food and feta cheese go together like peanut butter and jelly. Feta cheese is one of Greece’s traditional products. So of course, we needed to include my Greek seasoning in this recipe.
Lemon Juice
The addition of lemon juice brightens up this dip with a touch of acid.
Olive Oil
This adds a touch of additional creaminess and nuttiness to this dish.
Honey
The sweetness from the honey balanced the saltiness of the cheese.
Salt
Always salt to taste.
Equipment Deep Dive
This recipe couldn’t be easier. It requires no actual cooking – just blending in a food processor. Here’s everything you need to make this recipe:
Food Processor
I recommend this food processor because it has a large capacity for multiple recipes.
Rubber Spatula
A rubber spatula is helpful when scraping down the sides of the food processor in this recipe.
Cutting Board
A cutting board is necessary if you are cutting veggies into matchsticks for serving.
Grater
I used this grater to grate my garlic, but if you don’t have a grater, you can mince the garlic instead.
