A Quick Word on FIFO
FIFO (first in, first out) is an important term used in commercial kitchens and grocery stores. It is a system that ensures that the first apples (for example) get sold or used first and they don’t end up at the bottom of the barrel where they will rot and cost the company time (in the form of employees cleaning up the issue) and money (in the form of product & labor). But this term is not limited to commercial use. It should be used in all of our homes to make sure we are eating the older food first and avoiding spoilage.
So the next time you are dumping new flour on top of the old flour in your container – remember FIFO! Ideally, you would set the older flour in a bowl to the side as you pour in the new flour, then top off the new flour with the old flour so it’s at the top and gets used first!

Why is Organization Important?
It’s a time saver!
If you are organized in your fridge, you will have things prepped, washed, and stored in a way that will save you time the next time you go to cook or pull out snacks for the kids. You will know exactly where everything is so you won’t waste time digging in drawers. And clean-up is much quicker because everything has a place!
It’s a money saver!
If you bury your spinach in the back of a drawer, odds are it will be spoiled by the time you find it. I don’t know about you, but I HATE wasting food. It’s such an avoidable money waste if you keep a system in place. Being organized means you can see everything because you have clear, stackable containers (no more saving the old butter containers from the store and forgetting what’s in them).
If it’s out of sight, then it’s out of mind. An organization system makes FIFO way easier in your house (saving you money by reducing food spoilage). Plus, you can easily see exactly what you have (so you don’t have to run to the store to buy one thing just to get home and realize you already had it hiding in the back).
It’s a sanity saver!
If you open your fridge and it looks like a Tetris game, that’s pretty stressful. It’s frustrating to find your chicken package got punctured, leaked chicken juice all over your fresh produce, and made the whole fridge sticky. Keeping a clean and organized fridge reduces stress. Plus, it’s very easy to keep up with once you put your system in place!

Fridge Organization Ideas
1. Egg Holder
When I first saw this, I was like “OK, yea. It looks nicer than egg cartons… but is it really necessary?”. After having them for quite a few years, I would say I LOVE THEM. Something about not having big words & logos in my fridge brings me a sense of peace.
2. Dissolvable Labels
If you are big on expiration dates (which you should be!) and the idea of taking everything out of its container freaks you out because how are you supposed to know when they expire?! I got you covered. These labels allow you to write the expiration dates or the date cooked (like if I made a Taco Soup, I could write what day it was cooked so I know how old it is) on your clear containers. The best part: THEY DISSOLVE when you wash them normally. No goo gone or scraping necessary! Plus you get 500 labels for just around $11 – I call that a deal!
3. Glass Containers with Lids (various sizes)
These are a MUST. I suggest having a variety of large containers and small containers. They all come in handy, I promise!

4. Yogurt Organizer
This is GENIUS! I love the idea of using the underside of your refrigerator shelves to hang some items and better optimize the vertical space in your fridge! The yogurts fit perfectly and slide on and off with ease!
5. Stackable Organizer Bins
These are perfect for raw foods that you haven’t sliced or cooked yet. Like whole bell peppers, kiwis, whole strawberries, or whole zucchini waiting to be cooked later in the week. Depending on where you shop, many times these fruits and veggies are either sold in plastic containers or wrappings. It is incredibly satisfying to throw all of those away and have a clear view of everything you have on hand. Plus, the stackability makes it easy to access all your fresh produce!
6. Drink Organizers
There is a Poppi, Olipop, and Diet Coke obsession floating around the internet these days. But for any of your canned obsessions, I have found my two favorite drink organizers to optimize space in your fridge!
7. Kid Pouch Organizers
Calling all mamas with a happy baby addiction! These pouch organizers act similarly to the yogurt organizers above. They attach to the walls or doors of the fridge to optimize your fridge space. OR you can check out these regular pouch organizers that work just as well!
8. SALAD JARS & OVERNIGHT OATS JARS
These two are amazing for meal prepping your specific on-the-go salads and breakfast. Easy work days, unlocked!

9. Glass Pitchers
I love these for either making fruit-infused waters or even transferring your store-bought orange juice from the busy carton to a clean-looking pitcher!
10. Regular Labels
These are perfect for those containers that will be reused for the same things over and over again. I love using the “fruit”, “veggies”, and “snacks” labels!
11. Expandable Drawers For Fridge
I cannot express to you how much I LOVE THESE. They adjust to your shelf and they are much smaller than the typical fridge drawer. That makes them perfect for things like individually wrapped cheese sticks, babybel or laughing cow cheese, yogurt tubes or danimals, refrigerated bars (like granola or protein bars), or any smaller items that need a home!
12. Lazy Susan Fridge Organizer
This one doesn’t need much of an introduction! Lazy Susans are a classic product and have been around for ages. I love this one because it’s acrylic. It’s perfect for my condiment-loving families!
13. WINE ORGANIZER with BONUS SPARKLING WINE CAP!
Calling all wine lovers! These stackable wine organizers keep all your favorite wines chilled and ready to go. BONUS PRODUCT: this champagne stopper is a patented leak-proof stainless steel cap that keeps your sparkling wine or champagne bubbly for weeks!
