Ingredients

For The Popcorn

  • 4 tbsp butter, divided
  • 1/3 cup popcorn kernels

For The Flavorings

Instructions

  • Heat half of the butter over medium-high heat in a 3-qt pot.
  • Put 3-4 popcorn kernels at the bottom and wait for them to pop.
  • Once popped add the rest of the kernels in an even layer. Cover the lid, remove from heat, and count to 30 seconds.
  • Add the pot back to the heat and give it a shake (all of the popcorn will pop at once!). Pro tip: leave the lid slightly open while popcorn pops to allow steam to escape!
  • Once the popping slows to a few seconds in between pops, remove from heat and immediately transfer to a large bowl.
  • In the same pot used for the popcorn, place the remaining butter. Add in the brown sugar, gingerbread spice, and salt. Stir until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved (if you like your popcorn heavy on the flavorings, double the ingredients listed under "for the flavorings" in the recipe).
  • Immediately drizzle the flavorings on your popcorn and toss to coat. Enjoy!

Storage Information

Since this recipe is so quick to make, I recommend making just enough for the night! Popcorn tends to go stale quickly and it's best enjoyed right away. However, you can store it in an airtight container or bag for up to 4 days!

Popcorn Poppin' Methods

There are 2 ways to pop your kernels:
1. Stovetop
Follow these steps for perfectly popped stovetop popcorn:
  1. heat oil or butter over medium-high heat in a 3-quart pot
  2. put 3-4 popcorn kernels at the bottom and wait for them to pop
  3. once popped add the rest of the kernels in an even layer
  4. cover the lid, remove from heat, and count to 30 seconds
  5. add the pot back to the heat and give it a shake (all of the popcorn will pop at once!)
  6. once the popping slows to a few seconds in between pops, remove from heat and immediately transfer to a large bowl and toss in your flavorings
Pro tip: leave the lid slightly open while popcorn pops to allow steam to escape!
2. Microwave
You can also make this recipe in the microwave, it just requires one special, yet inexpensive tool. This HotPop Silicone Popcorn Maker is only about $15 and comes in an array of fun colors. Simply add your kernels, oil, and flavorings and place it in the microwave to pop. The bowl holds about 15 cups of popcorn and evenly distributes the heat to pop all the kernels!
If you are a popcorn-loving family, I recommend getting this HotPop Silicone Popcorn Maker. It's so convenient and a great alternative to your popcorn bags from the store! In fact, if you are a popcorn lover, click here to access my Amazon "Popcorn Lovers" Board!
